This is a photo of John Thomas Harrison [b. 1850 d. 6/30/1921 age 71]. He lived in Spennymoor, County Durham, UK. Buried, Gateshead [Saltwell Cemetery] He worked as a draper or haberdasher in Bishop Aukland in Durham. He had put up a bond for someone- who took off from prosecution, and lost everything; including their house. After, he went to Sunderland to work, and then to Newcastle to, again, work as a draper. On 8/2/1880 he married his first wife Anne Laing [b.1852]. They had four sons, Hugh, Herbert , Arthur, and Robert Cecil (1st). Anne Laing died 3/26/1889 at age 37. I have no photo of her but do have one of her father Alexander Laing [1808-1889]. No blood in us from him. The only one of these that have any familiarity to me, beside my grandmother, Mabel, is her sister Edith [Auntie Edie]. They sent letters back and forth from the U.S. to the U.K. frequently while my grandmother was alive, and her name was spoken throughout our lives. The other name with familiarity is Robert Cecil- after which my mother's brother was named. |
