My grandfather Felice [Felix] means “happy”, “content” or “successful” to an Italian. From what I remember, or heard, he was all of the above. He always had a “DeNobilli” aka “guinea stinker” cigar bit off and in his mouth. The early predecessor to chewing-tobacco. Next to him on the left is my aunt Tina [Celestine Corte] and on the right is Theresa Gaido [?] The location is in front of the garden my grandmother always had going in Staten Island. You can see the distance to the ocean in the background. It was a good ten feet higher than the sandy beach; but the erosion by the time we were no longer going there had eaten it away to within twenty feet from the peach tree, which I am thinking is the sapling at the extreme left of this photograph. It was always enough room for the garden and patio with the grapevine. The land deed did list the plot to include one-hundred fifty feet into the ocean from dead low tide. It was a beautiful spot, and I am so glad I got to grow up with it for twenty-five years.
