This is a photo
of my grandmother Amelia Corte taken around 1905.
She was born in
October, 1885 and died on April 8th, 1970 of a stroke.
Stroke [Hemorrhage, not clot] was the cause of death of my father
and my Aunt Betty, the two offspring of my grandparents that
lived full lives.
My
grandmother's two half-brothers Anthony and Virginio. Both lived
very long lives. Virginio died 2 weeks before his 100th
birthday, healthy his whole life, but a failed memory.
Anthony died at 96 (hemorrhagic stroke) with only his last
year in a state of ill health., His mind was always very
sharp. (He still drove!- his driver's license was to expired when
he was 98.)
My grandmother's
half-sister, Celeste,
died of pancreatic cancer well into her 80's.
