This is the earliest
photos I have of Amelia Corte (b.1885) and Felice Ferrero
(b.1878 -Pronounced Phil-ee-che and spelled "Felix" on
my grandfather's letterhead). My grandfather came from
Giaveno, Italy, in the Piedmont region. His father's name
was Giovanni. My grandfather's mother's name was unknown to
my father. They stayed in Italy. My grandmother's family was
from Callabiana,
due north of Biella, Italy. Both Biella and Giaveno are
close to Turin. Biella is northeast, Giaveno
is west. Both are at the base of the Cottian Alps. Amelia Corte's father's name was Giovanni also. Her mother's name was Maria Bianco. Amelia had two half-brothers, Virginio and Antonio, and a half-sister, Celestina (different mother- don't know her name.) Felice had a younger sister, Erminia, and as discovered in 2015- a brother, Joseph, who was ten years older and lived with them according to the 1910 census. My grandfather died January 26, 1955 and my grandmother on April 8, 1970. Both are buried in the new section of St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, N.Y.C. [St. Johns, range 60 grave 31]. Another 2015 discovery: Felice was naturalized in 1942. [more]
P.S. I have the gold watch chain in the photo, and a working Elgin pocket watch; but, I don't know that The watch was my grandfather's. |
